HIRING: Head of Academy

The Academy at District Church is looking for a LEADER. Are you one of the following?

  • An innovative, inspiring “Edupreneur” blending business, leadership & education.

  • A reformed education leader who knows the old way is broken and is equipped to fix it.

  • A kingdom professional who can lead & inspire an organization with entrepreneurial spirit.

If so, check out the rest of this page to see if you and this opportunity are a fit.

About the Role

We're looking for a special leader to lead the staff, students, and parents in our shared vision of “the most life-ready young leaders in the country” by maintaining “the most life-giving school in the world.”

You'll need to be cool, creative, entrepreneurial, driven, and able to lead peers, parents, and children in a high-performance, high-joy, leadership academy by blending structure, standards, and challenge with play, humor, and adventure.

You’ll need to be great at multiplying people, coaching a team, and leading customers. You’ll likely have a history of entrepreneurial leadership in Christian, kingdom-building ventures.

You should be able to run a P&L, run a race with 5th graders, run a great workshop, and run circles around teens.

You’re a high character leader with strong family and know that leadership & discipleship is how we reclaim what is good.

Step 1: What is The Academy?

The Academy at District Church is a K-12 private Christian leadership academy in El Dorado Hills, CA that is equipping kids to learn to think, to lead, and to find their purpose.

We use an awesome, common-sense approach to learning that makes kids love school. Our business was recognized as one of the country's Great Places to Work for small businesses because we have an amazing team and run The Academy like a business.

Better results require better ingredients, and we're looking for a gifted leader to guide our amazing team, families, & mission.

Step 2: Who is The Academy?

The Academy staff is a high-performing team of entrepreneurial, adventurous, hard-working believers who are:

  • Built for Action

  • Unafraid of Risk

  • Never done Growing

Guides are the CEO of their studios commissioned to love & lead our learners to become critical-thinkers, courageous-leaders, and responsible humans. Unlike many traditional schools, our team balances love, joy, and adventure with smart choices, ambitious goals, and accountability to perform.

It might become the best team you've ever been on.

Step 3: Why We Exist

Traditional education is broken. Kids have never been more depressed, uninspired or ill-equipped for life ever in human history.

The Academy is a unique solution to a pervasive problem. If you don't agree there's a problem to solve, then this solution won't be a fit for you. And if you don't understand how the problem came to be in the first place, you're likely destined to repeat the same mistakes.

We're committed to not making the same mistakes - but it takes guts to stay convicted to do things differently.

Step 7: Read This Book

Book cover titled 'Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling' by John Taylor Gatto, featuring two men in suits looking at a background of gears.

Before you apply, we ask you to read a short but powerful book: Dumbing Us Down by John Taylor Gatto.

This isn’t just a critique of traditional schooling—it’s a wake-up call. Gatto, a former Teacher of the Year turned whistleblower, pulls back the curtain on how modern education often trains compliance over curiosity, and routine over real thinking.

If you’ve ever felt that school kills creativity, numbs ambition, or fails to prepare students for real life… this book will name it—and light a fire in you.

If it resonates, you should keep going...
